Pinky's Fandance - Sunday Edition

I'm just going to say it - I love Rosie O'Donnell. I know, I know, a lot of people don't and that's totally fine, you don't have to. But I do. Triple love her. Loved her talk show, love her comedy, love her blog. So, imagine my delight to find out she was coming to Sundance for her movie about a gay cruise ship. As she was my "festival goal" and the person I wanted for my Christmas card, I was obsessed (who, me?) about getting the picture. I was meticulous in my plan. As soon as I found out she'd be coming, I started leaving comments on her blog (as I know she reads the comments). The comments were simple, like, "Hey Ro - looking forward to seeing you at Sundance. Hope we can get a pic. Love, Pinky." You know, just setting up my picture so that when the time came, she might be more receptive (you can never tell how people will be. Some are super nice and some make you cry). When the day arrived for her movie, I still didn't know if I could get it, so to cement the deal, I made a sign. That's right - I'm so silly I made a sign so that when she was onstage after the movie answering questions, all she'd have to do is read my sign, realize my devotion, and cave in to my request. Simple, right? The sign said, "Hey Ro! It's Pinky. Picture?"
Now, this next part is where it gets embarrassing. I'm not particularly proud of my ridiculous behavior with Rosie, but whatever. It's in the past. So, I'm at the screening waiting in my seat (front row, right in front of the podium where she'll be speaking) and she walks in with her family. Now, she was early. Really early. Like, so early I could easily get my picture before the movie, thereby eliminating my torture of waiting through the film to see if I'll get it after. So, one of my fellow stalker friends (who had seen my sign and was trying to be encouraging) said I should go now and get the picture. She was sitting several rows behind me, in the center of the aisle, with a few open rows behind her. So, I walked up behind (and there were at least three rows between us) and said, "Excuse me, Rosie?" and she turned around, and this is where I turned into a complete idiot. I was so nervous I couldn't even speak. I said, "I made you a sign" (seriously, this is exactly what happened) and held it up. She read the sign and said, "OK, how about we get it after the film?" and I said, "Are you sure? Because I could hop these seats right now." She was like, "Um, no, that's fine. Just grab me after the movie." Of course I had to press it. I said, "OK, I'm right in the front row. Or I could just climb over these seats right now, it's no problem." She was nice, but still said, "Let's just do it after." So I walked back to my seat, shaking, and started crying. Just a little bit (not because I was sad, but because I just talked to her!) and got ready for the movie. Once the film ended and she was onstage, it was cute because at one point she looked down at me and winked (!). Then, as soon as the Q&A was over, she looked at me and said, "Come on" (which gave me access to get onstage with her) and we took the picture (with my super cool camera where I can take the picture myself). She said, "Hey, I do self-portraits like this" and I was like, "I know, I read your blog." The cool part was that I was the ONLY person who got a picture with her and then she left. Hooray! My plan worked after all (even if I did have to resort to acting like a dork who couldn't speak with the sign).

Cute story. It makes me feel better that you aren't so suave and cool around all the celebs. Makes me hopeful that they won't all think we're dorks when we're a little starstruck trying to get a photo, autograph, etc...
