What a Difference a Year Makes

Isn't it interesting how many things can change in the space of a year? One year ago this weekend I was in Washington visiting my BFF; I was actively seeing several people (Biter, Stalker, Trucker, and one more I can't remember); I'd never been to Cindy Ree's; and I hadn't even met 28 yet. Here it is one year later and I no longer talk to my BFF (his choice); I no longer see any of those people (my choice); I go to Cindy Ree's on a weekly basis; and, well, we don't need to re-hash my feelings for 28. Where does the time go? Who knew so much could change? Another year older....am I wiser? I don't know. I hope so. I'd like to think so. At least I'm working on it, right? I guess I'm pointed in the right direction....

Pinky's Fandance, Monday Edition

Ed Asner voiced the main character of UP, so I thought it only fitting for him to be the subject of today's Pinky's Fandance. I met both Ed Asner and Ed Begley, Jr. when my poetry was featured at a benefit for a non-profit support group called "Friends Outside" (which is a group for friends and families of prisoners). It was a great experience - as one of the featured authors, my work was read by a celebrity and I got to stand up and wave. :)"The Eds" were some of the celebrities who read other people's work (mine was done by a girl) and then I was able to get a picture with them after. I did spend some time talking to Ed Asner, who had a brother in prison and he was very kind (even though he looks a little grumpy in this picture). Yes, I know my outfit makes me look like I worked for See's Candies. I liked it. Shut up.

Two Thumbs WAY Up for UP

I went to see the new Pixar movie UP today with Hiba and Heidi and was completely in love with it. What a perfect little story - I pretty much cried most of the movie. I loved seeing the character development of the main character, Carl, and how creative they were with the supporting characters and the storyline. I knew I was going to like it, but I absolutely loved it. If you get a chance, get out to see UP! :)

Celebrity Wrap Up - Monday Edition

Hello and welcome to Monday's edition of Celebrity Wrap Up.Is Fergie trying to rock some shiny mummy attire? WTF?Katy Perry never ceases to have the most interesting outfits ever. Pretty pantyhouse - did they come in an egg container?Hey Josh Harnett - where's the flood?Pretty jeans, Lindsay. Did you acid wash them yourself? First of all, how did Harvey Weinstein get this girl? Oh, wait. Nevermind. Second, her dress looks like it could poke somebody's eye out.

Top Seven Postsecrets of the Day

Pinky's Fandance, Sunday Edition

Robin Thicke (yes, the son of Alan Thicke from Growing Pains) was at Sundance this year. I'm not really sure why, except he's a pretty big pop star (well, some sort of big deal in the music industry) and perhaps he was performing somewhere. He was really cool and friendly - wanting to be sure he knew our names (which is always a classy touch). Hot stuff! :)

I May Have Lost It Already

Here's the thing - not only am I feeling "off" in general (due to my health woes), but the neverending depression seems to be affecting my memory (or ability to think like a normal person....then again, have I ever been normal??). Case in point:

This is a turkey. A nice, juicy, delicious looking turkey, but a turkey all the same. This, however, is a ham. Decidedly NOT a turkey. They are different meats.

I got a ham from work for Christmas, like usual, and planned to cook it over Easter. However, I ended up going to my aunt's house instead and never got around to cooking it (also of note: I don't know how to cook a ham, but that's beside the point). Despite seeing said ham in my freezer for the past five months, somehow my mind decided it was a turkey. So, I told McFamily that I've got this turkey we need to cook (and by we, I mean McB) for one of our Sunday dinners. When I went to get it out of my freezer, I still had no idea it was a ham. Nope, still thought it was a turkey. First, I left my house (en route to give the turkey to McB) without the ham/turkey. Nice move. Then, once I arrived at their house, it occured to me that my meat delivery was, in fact, a ham. Ooops. Too bad they got all the sides and everything ready for a turkey dinner. Oh, and to add insult to injury, McH hates ham. Crap! Needless to say, the ham is back in my freezer and I've got to run to Wal-mart tomorrow for a turkey. Blurgh.

Celebrity Wrap Up - Sunday Edition

Hello and welcome to Sunday's edition of Celebrity Wrap Up.Is Rihanna on her way back to the Mother Ship? Is she aware her bra is showing?Oooh, pretty make-up, Christina. Did you learn that in clown school? And those bangs are a world of NO, btw.I don't know why Blake Lively's burberry umbrella creeps me out so much, but it just looks wrong for some reason.Well, at least Drew Barrymore finally wore a somewhat presentable outfit. Too bad her make-up leaves a lot to be desired (blue eyeshadow UNDERNEATH her eyes???). The good news is that Kate Walsh took my advice and brushed her hair. The bad news? Um, is this really much better?

R-E-L-A-X: Doctor's Orders!

Aside from a few pills I'll be taking for the next ten days (ugh), the main recommendation from my doctor today was to rest and take it easy this weekend. Um, are you serious? I've been doing nothing but practicing at that for the past few weekends! Who knew my laziness (read: depression) would come in handy?

The Picture Queens

Going to get the Dave Attel picture was the perfect end to my day. After all the poor health drama, it was nice to get done up and go meet the girls. We even ended up meeting some, er, interesting boys in the parking lot who kept us entertained long after we were wanting to talk with them. Still, it was fun. Thanks, Hiba and Heidi, for once again helping get the pic! :) We rule!

Pinky's Fandance, Saturday Edition

My love for stand-up comedy is deep and true. Dave Attel is one of those genius comics who can make you laugh at anything. When I heard he was coming to SLC, I really wanted to get a picture with him (although I wasn't completely sold on the high-priced ticket, as I've heard most of his stuff already). Heidi, Hiba, and I planned it perfectly (I'm telling you, we've got mad skills) and ended up getting to the comedy club tonight right when the show was ending (there were two shows - we figured we could get him in between gigs). I knew he smoked, so I thought we'd have luck out back....and I was right! Never has a picture been so easy (well, a few have, but this was also fun). Dave was sooo cool. He was hanging out and talking with everyone. We ended up seeing him a few times as we flitted about. I'm so excited about the pics!

I Let The Bed Bugs Bite

Without going into needless details, unfortunately I spent most of the afternoon at the stupid Urgent Care. Apparently a bug bite I'd gotten the other day became infected and some lymph nodes became inflamed (and formed a lump, which was freaking me out). After way too many hours and almost a total and complete meltdown, I was on my way. Finally! What was wrong with the Urgent Care, you ask? Well, for one, I'm pretty sure I was the only person there who spoke English. Next, I was sitting next to a little girl singing/humming/driving me bonkers, and then moved next to a lady talking to herself. I was surrounded by people wearing surgical masks (who knew the Swine Flu had an outbreak in the waiting room?) and then another girl had some sort of jingle bells on her keychain and kept jingling them. FOREVER. Add this to the lady loudly eating peanuts with her mouth open and my hour-long wait for my prescription (all the while just being tired in general) and you've got all the makings of a pissed off Pinky. This sign made me laugh, though. I realize I'm not fluent in Spanish by any means, but I know enough to realize the times do not correlate. Why are Spanish speakers seen earlier in the day? Do I smell discrimination? :)

Celebrity Wrap Up - Saturday Edition

Hello and welcome to Saturday's edition of Celebrity Wrap Up.Dear Justin Gaston (aka Miley Cyrus' boyfriend): Do you happen to own any other clothes besides a tight white t-shirt and jeans? I'm sure Miley would be more than happy to splurge on some duds. Dear Honor Warren (aka Jessica Alba's daughter): I love the way you're working the camera. You are FIERCE, baby! Don't change. Dear Kate Walsh: It's called a brush. Use one.Dear Hugh Jackman: This pose/pulling technique doesn't work for TC and Katie and it doesn't work for you. Knock it off. You're scaring me. One TC is bad enough.Dear J.Lo: My mother always taught me that if I didn't have something nice to say I shouldn't say anything at all. So, I'm speechless.

Old School Photo

This picture magically appeared on Facebook this week from a girl I knew in elementary school. The funny thing to note is my outfit (I'm on the far right, 2nd row, standing next to the teacher). Notice anything interesting? Yeah, awkward. Too bad my friend Shawn (front row, third from the left) wore the EXACT same dress. WTF?!? How often does that happen? Of course, she didn't have my cool white tights or jaunty accessories (that's right - I'm rocking the barrette with ribbons - don't judge me - to accessorize my otherwise boy-looking haircut). I was nervous and playing with my skirt...nice. My TLF is in my row, third from the left. I had his picture above my bed for years and would kiss it every night. Wait, what? You know you love his hair part.

Today's Post Sponsored By The Letter N

Yesterday at work I finally got the necklace I'd ordered last month which I'd been anxiously waiting for (well, at least until the whole stupid break-up happened). It was an initial necklace with the letter N on it (yes, I'm 12, we don't need to focus on this part of the story). Um, ouch. Talk about a stab in the heart. I know, I know, I probably should've cancelled the order, but I thought it was too late (and, of course, I kinda still thought there was some hope.....oops, did I say that out loud?). So, now we're trying to find alternate names that the N could possibly stand for. A few of my favorites so far: No, Nice, Neanderthal, and the very best: NEXT. Any other suggestions?

Fun Day at Work

Today was a pretty fun day at work. It started with a company meeting where we gave our outgoing CEO a big send-off before he leaves on a mission to Switzerland. It was really cool to see all the stuff they did to thank him for everything he did for the company. This picture is from the meeting (although it's hard to see much of anything going on except a sea of people). Then, this afternoon we had a picnic with a band that yodeled! The yodeling contest (is that how you spell yodeling? I've never had to write that before) was hysterical. I was hoping to win the Vespa scooter or Plasma TV or bike they raffled away, but alas. No loot for me. Sigh. Oh well, a good time was still had by all.

Pinky's Fandance, Friday Edition

Mimi Kennedy is probably best known as Dharma's hippie mom on Dharma and Greg. At the Festival this year she was in a great film and I had the opportunity to meet her when she was trying to find a theater. She was really friendly and nice and I was thrilled to get to talk with her.

Three Weeks, Still Breathing

Not to be overly dramatic (who, me?), but today marks three weeks since the big Break-up. I'd like to say that I'm no longer sobbing in public, or that I can even get through an entire day without crying, but that would be a lie. I am, however, doing marginally better. Plus, I seem to be entering The Anger Phase (I'm not exactly sure of all the phases of grief, but I'm pretty sure that's one of them), which I think will rock once I'm fully immersed in it (so far it's only partially there....it comes and goes). Can it just hurry up and get here? I want to be mad - I'm sick of being sad! Perhaps the worst part is my inability to fall asleep in a timely way. Despite all my attempts to surround myself with body pillows (like a cocoon), I still lie awake forever. Here's to hoping the anger will somehow put me to sleep quicker. Does that work?

Celebrity Wrap Up - Friday Edition

Hello and welcome to Friday's edition of Celebrity Wrap Up.Do you remember that blonde muppet from The Muppet Show who played the drums (I think) and always had her mouth open? Hmmm, I wonder why I'm reminded of that?Is it just me or is Winona's dress a *wee* bit short? And why does she always seem to have the crazy eyes?Have you ever seen a picture of Adam Sandler's older daughter? Luckily, this one looks not-as-afflicted as her sister. Wait. What? Did I just say that out loud?Rihanna is obviously using WAY too much hairspray and it's affecting her memory. Why else would she leave her house after forgetting to put on her clothes? So, Demi Moore apparently posted this picture on her Twitter (however that works) as a way to make herself more relatable. Guess what? You're still an ice cold bitch in person and your husband is a total douchebag. Nice try, though.

Happy Birthday, Jayman!!!

My baby brother, Jay, turns the big 3-0 on Thursday (which seems impossible since I'm only 29 myself). How can he be so old? I swear he was just born! Anyway, I wanted to be sure I wished him a very, very happy birthday indeed. I hope you do something fun! Sure do love you. Happy Birthday, Ted-Bone! :)

McP the Supermodel

McP was cute as a bug at Cindy Ree's tonight. She was laughing, dancing, and entertaining the table, per usual. I love this picture. She couldn't be any sweeter if she tried.

Pinky's Fandance, Thursday Edition

We saw David Guintoli at Sundance on Main Street interviewing people for some show. All three of us (me, Hiba, and Heidi) recognized him, but couldn't quite place him. Turns out he was on Road Rules, as well as several other TV shows (my fave, Grey's Anatomy, for example). He was really cool and seemed to genuinely enjoy his job and the experience. I'm glad we stopped him for a pic!

New In Town

I watched a super cute movie last night called New In Town starring Renee Zellweger. It was nice to finally see a sweet little romantic comedy, as I've been sorely disappointed by any I've seen recently. If you like Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr. you should check it out!
