Fair-Weather Friends are for the Birds

Last night I had a great dinner with my friend Angela followed by a visit from my friend Gabriel. Both people I've known for a long time and it was fantastic to catch up with them. Gabriel has recently fallen on some hard times and was remarking how interesting it is to see the people who stick by you when life isn't perfect. He was so right. I've been blessed with so many wonderful friends in my life, but I've noticed in the past year which ones I can truly count on and which ones I can't. It makes a difference. I've always tried to be the type of person who's reliable, loyal, and trustworthy and I'd like to think the people I let into my inner circle are the same way. And for the most part they are. I think the trick is to cut out the ones who don't provide you with that stability and support and only drain you of energy. I'm trying to be better at cutting and running when something isn't working. I've got a long way to go, but at least I'm going in the right direction.
