Pinky's Fandance, Shoulda/Woulda/Coulda Thursday Edition

Today's Fandance isn't going to be about a successful photo opportunity, it's going to recount a shoulda/woulda/coulda experience. I thought we'd mix it up a bit by adding this contrast once a week. You know you're excited.
The year: 2002.
The scene: The special party in Benicio Del Toro's honor at the Legacy Lodge.
The set-up: My friend was his designated press rep and arranged a meeting with me and Benicio. However, the only caveat was that they didn't allow cameras (curses!), so I left mine downstairs.
The meeting: Awkward at best. My friend actually had to remind me to breathe (as I'd forgotten) when we were walking over to him. She introduced me to Benicio and he put his arm around me (!) and said, "Where's the camera?!" BLAST! Stupid rules. Obviously I wasn't adept at my pictures yet and didn't sneak a camera in. After he removed his arm, I shook for half and hour and couldn't really stop.
The worst part: Still shaking, I was watching him from across the room (and wishing a camera would magically appear) when somehow my hair caught on fire from a nearby candle. So, Benicio got to smell my burning hair. Classy.
The result: Neverending sadness and regret to not have a picture with my #3 Male Celeb. Of course, that was long before I met Nic Cage or Ricky Schroder (#s 2 and 1, respectively), but it would've been fantastic to get a picture with him. Sigh. Maybe someday. Hear that universe? You may bring him to me anytime.

Forgive and Forget? Or Just Forget?

So, M and I had a weird night this weekend and I've been super annoyed for the past few days. Here I've been impatiently waiting for an apology only to find out that he doesn't even remember anything from that night. Hmmm. I'm not sure how to be angry with someone who doesn't remember the whole thing, especially when I've been in the situation (perhaps more than once) when I can't really remember anything either. Granted, it's not a free pass, but I think I just need to be mindful when things are escalating and leave the situation to avoid further conflict. It's all about learning about the other person and figuring out how to get along day-to-day, right? This stuff is hard. Shouldn't there be an instruction manual on how to understand another person? That would rule.

An Open Letter to the Gum Chewer

Dear Girl-In-My-Training-Class-Incessantly-Popping-Her-Gum, Hi. How are you? Good, I hope. Listen. We need to talk. You're obviously a huge fan of the gum chewing and that's fantastic for you. Really. Super. Great. Whatever. However, when you're in a training class sitting around other people for an entire hour, it would be very much appreciated if you would refrain from chomping said gum and popping it incessantly like a five-year-old child. You're like 50 (!). It's ridiculous for you to carry on this way and it does nothing but annoy me (who had the unfortunate luck of sitting right next to you) and make me want to punch you in the face. Even worse is the fact that you were a complete moron and asked really, really stupid questions (where's the Microsoft Office button? Come on). Perhaps the gum is making you dumb? In the future, please refrain from chewing and popping your gum when around other people. Thankyouverymuch. Your annoyed friend, Pinky Lovejoy

Bring on the Cool

The weather has been so nice this summer. Not too hot at all - well, at least not for very long. Usually I'm having Slurpees every day to cool me down in my boiler room apartment, but not so much this year. Now that Fall's approaching and the temperatures are cooler, it makes for an even better time! I'm always so relieved when Summer is over and the heat has passed. Of course, I'm not really thrilled about the snow (even after all these years I'm never going to get used to that), but no matter. Bring on the cool! :)

Pinky's Fandance, Wednesday Edition

Mena Suvari was at the Sundance Film Festival several years ago with one of her films. She was very nice to anyone who wanted a picture. The thing I remember most about this experience was a guy who wanted a picture but his camera broke right as he was about to get a picture. So, I took his picture with Mena on my camera and emailed it to him. Seemed to make him happy. There's nothing worse than camera drama when you're trying to get a picture with a celeb. Luckily, Mena was super patient and kind about the whole thing.

R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

Yesterday the world lost another entertainer, the always loveable Patrick Swayze. I always enjoyed watching him onscreen - from his early work in The Outsiders to Ghost and beyond. One of the most admirable things about him was his relationship with his wife, Lisa - they always seemed like the most perfect couple. Marriages over 30 years are pretty rare in
Hollywood (especially when you think that he was only 57 when he passed away), but they made it look easy. My favorite thing Patrick did had to be his hilarious skit with the late Chris Farley on SNL - too too funny! Someone posted a great quote from Ghost on Facebook today, "It's so true, Molly, the love you feel, you take it with you. See ya." How perfect is that?

Now this is more like it! :)Lady Gaga: The Bride of Terrible Taste. You know, Brad Pitt is going to run out of hats if everyone keeps borrowing them.

Top Five LOL Cats of the Day

Pinky's Fandance, Tuesday Edition

As a huge fan of Party of Five, I was thrilled to meet Neve Campbell at Sundance a few years ago. She was very nice and agreed to take a photo, although I think the movie was about to start. Man, my hair was short!

True Blood? Yes, Please

I've started watching the HBO series True Blood on DVD. After hearing so many great things about it (not to mention my extreme fascination with all things vampire), I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I was even more excited to find out that it's written by Alan Ball, who was the creator of Six Feet Under (which was such an incredible show). So far I'm only halfway through the first season, but I'm really enjoying it and can't wait to see more.

Celebrity Wrap Up - Tuesday Edition

Hello and welcome to Tuesday's edition of Celebrity Wrap Up. Is Kate Hudson really sucking in her cheeks and striking a pose? Why does she have such a plunging neckline when she's rocking the high plains?
Is Madonna aware that she's in public? She looks like she's lounging around her house in a robe.Pink seems to be rocking Cameron Diaz's hairstyle from There's Something About Mary.Did Beyonce forget her pants?Oh, Drew. You're so quirky and funny! Who has need of some fashion sense when you can proudly wear the silliest things ever?

Monday Already?

Where on earth did my weekend go? I swear it was just Friday...and here it is Monday already. Ugh. I don't feel mentally prepared for it to be Monday yet. My weekend was OK - on Saturday I went to the Farmer's Market and then to the Avenues Street Fair to see McB sling some gyros. Spent most of Saturday and Sunday with M and then went to a birthday party for a bit on Sunday afternoon. Still not feeling 100%, but I'm sure I'll live. Let's just try to get through this Monday as quickly as possible.

Pinky's Fandance, Monday Edition

Kristen Wiig is one of the funniest ladies on TV. She's got the most hysterical characters on SNL and she's been in quite a few movies I've seen lately. One of my absolute favorite characters she does on SNL is the "Topper" lady - especially since I've known a topper or two in my time. When I met her at Sundance, I told her how her portrayal was right on and how I knew a few of those. She was great. I found her outside after her film and was able to catch her just as she was getting into a car. Luckily, she came right over and was nice as could be. Love her!

Twelve Years of Bliss

With Spenser turning 12 the other day, it caused me to reflect upon my past 12 years of being an Auntie. As everyone knows, I love being an Auntie - it's probably my favorite thing in the world (next to Sundance, pink, and flamingos). I completely adore my nieces and nephews and am so happy anytime I get to spend time with them. It's funny to think that for four years there was only Spens...he was our pride and joy and everything he did delighted
us. Then came Phoenix, Max, Owen, Zoey, Deacon, and Ava.
In that time, I've become a certified Pokemon specialist, Disney Princess connoisseur, Kid Craft Master, and had more nails and toes painted with odd colors than I care to remember. I'm so lucky to be a part of these amazing lives. Thinking of them just makes me smile.

Celebrity Wrap Up - Monday Edition

Hello and welcome to Monday's edition of Celebrity Wrap Up.Does Lady Gaga just sit up all night and think of the most outlandish thing she could possibly wear?I thought Jenny from the Block was supposed to be a fashion maven?

Kanye West is the biggest tool on earth. Apparently even he can't stand himself if he has to carry around a bottle of liquor to forget his pain.

Now those are some particularly terrible shoes, Leighton. How do you wear those with a straight face?

When did Katy Perry become an ice skater?

Top Five LOL Cats of the Day

Pinky's Fandance, Sunday Edition

I ran into Pell James as she was leaving her screening this year. Pell is married to the director of the movie she was in (The Shrink) at Sundance, but it looks as though she's an up-and-coming actress. I thought she was really sweet.
