John Heffron Makes Me Happy

John Heffron might possibly be my absolute favorite comedian in the whole world (which says a lot considering how much I love stand-up comedy). I've wanted to see him perform live ever since he won Last Comic Standing, but he never came to Utah when I was living there (despite how much I hoped and prayed that he would). Actually, since I've been back in Cali, I haven't seen a notice of a show here either....that is, until now. Imagine my delight to discover he was performing in Brea this weekend. I wanted to go on my actual birthday, but the traffic going there on Friday night would've been insane. Yesterday, I found out he was performing there again last night and I got a free ticket, so score! Seeing him perform was amazing. I laughed and laughed and even picked up an autographed copy of his DVD on the way out. I love him!

Last Marcus Standing

Tonight I went to the live screening of the Last Comic Standing Semi-Finals for Marcus, a local comedian competing on the show. The invite said to stay and "see if he makes it to the Finals," but I kind of think he must if he's having a viewing party at a local bar. I mean, why would you do that if you lose? Due to my bummer of a mood, I didn't want to stay (and really, I just wanted a picture with him anyway), so I made an appearance, got my pic, and left. He really is very funny, though, and does amazing impressions. My good friend Charles and I saw him a few years ago as an opening act and we liked him way more than the headliner that night (perhaps we should be talent scouts??). I'm not surprised he's on the show at all. I hope he goes all the way!!!! UPDATE: Just as I thought, Marcus is IN THE FINALS! :) Go, Marcus!

Last Comic Standing

I'm a pretty big fan of the TV show Last Comic Standing. Actually a HUGE fan of not only the show, but all forms of stand-up comedy. I love it. Always have. Always will. Even tried performing it for a few years in college...but that was a million years ago. Anyway, in the past month there've been not one, but two past winners from Last Comic Standing - Josh Blue and Alonso Bodden - performing at a local club. I took my friend Angie for her birthday last month to see Josh and then tonight my friend Jenny took me to see Alonso (yes, apparently I'm on a first name basis with both of them) for mine. They were SO funny! I'm always so refreshed and inspired after laughing for an hour solid. I had to take notes just to be sure I remembered how funny the jokes were (I hate when I forget!). We had a great time and Alonso was gracious enough to take a picture (well, two, actually, since I didn't like our first one) with me. Yay! :)
