Be Your Own Hero

My favorite thing about the movie Whip It was the slogan they recited over and over: "Be your own hero." How cool is that? I think sometimes people get so caught up in thinking that someone out there is going to come along and fix everything and you'll live happily ever after...but the truth of the matter is you're going to have to do that on your own. Sure, you can certainly become your best hero and then join forces with another to combine your powers, but only when you've both reached your full potential. I've got a ways to go before I can do that....I've got a whole lot of hero making to do.

Who knew I'd come across so many treasures in Iowa? When we were shopping for my super cute pink boots, we found this fantastic Hello Kitty hat. Don't be jealous. I'm stoked because it's all about the hats and scarves for my Sundance pictures. You know I like to mix it up and have a variety. This will be a wonderful addition to my collection. Did I mention it came with matching Hello Kitty gloves?

Speaking of Sundance, my new toy finally came in the mail yesterday!!! Applause applause. Of course, in the mail is not the correct term. I had to leave work and wait for the stupid UPS man to deliver it...but no matter. MY NEW CAMERA IS HERE! Can I just say that it is SO fancy? I think it's smarter than me. Seriously. It can detect a smile, a blink, anything. You just touch the screen and it comes on. It's genius!

Another genius thing? I found my electric blanket last night (finally) - hooray! - and got a new tattoo when I was in California. Yes, that would bring my new count to 20 tattoos. Just called me Painted Lady Pinky. :)

Anyone who's ever met my mother knows she's not the greatest picture taker in the world. Bless her heart, she tries, but somehow.....just misses the mark. The other day I decided to get a picture with the Oskaloosa sign, so I asked my mom to take a picture. Here's what turned out: (note: I'm standing by the "a" on the far right side). Oops. Take two was much better:Perhaps there's hope for her yet? :) Love you, Mom! Speaking of signs, check out this one. Apparently they don't have 7-11 stores in Iowa - they have Kum & Gos and Git & Gos. I have no response to that.

Adventures in Iowa

How could I forget the other exciting (albeit not unusual) thing I did in Iowa?!? That's right, crochet! To the left you'll see the cute hat and scarf I made for my mom and then you may admire the hat and scarf I made my for myself below. Cute, right? Don't be jealous of my mad skills. Here's a picture of their new house, downtown Oskaloosa (the thriving metropolis) and Mike's Aunt Betty - such a sweetie!

How I Spent My Vacation

These past five days in Iowa were, surprisingly, amazing. I had the best time. Seriously. Who knew? Of course, it was filled with all the things I love (including my mom), so how can you beat that? It was the perfect vacation (minus the flying....which still gives me the willies). In case you're wondering what we did, here are a few of the fun activites (in no particular order): Watched a ton of movies - mainly romantic comedies - at night with a big bowl of yummy popcorn.

Shopped - who knew Iowa had such great sales?! 75% off? Mark me down for a yes.Sleeping - I'm not going to lie, I did a whole bunch of this. Apparently I was a lot more tired than I thought.Eating - in addition to my delicious made-to-order breakfast every morning (thanks Mom's kitchen), we spent each evening at a different eatery in downtown Oscaloosa. Yum!

Freezing - at -6 degrees, it was beyond cold. Luckily the tiles in the bathroom floor were heated (my first time experiencing that joy) and we kept bundled up. Brrr!

Get Me Off These Planes!

Thank goodness the flights are over! I *finally* made it safe and sound off of the neverending flights (one of them being the smallest plane in the world - this picture is only a slight exaggeration) and am back home in the Pink Palace. Minorly annoyed at the delivery of my new camera, as apparently I have to be here to sign for it (how is that going to work?!?!) and I'm not sure how I'm going to do that since I really need to be at work, but I also need my new camera for Sundance. Hmmmph. Had a great time in Iowa, but am beat down, so will update more tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll post a few funny things. Enjoy.
