Toys and Cars

The good news today is that my new toy (see above) came in the mail. I'm SO excited to try it out. FINALLY all my stupid pictures won't be blurry! Yay me! :) Of course, I'm not too happy with the boring color, but that's been fixed by the Hello Kitty stickers I put all over it. I know, shocking to hear that I'm an adult, huh? (Wait, since when?). I just don't see why it's so hard for a camera company to make the features I want (most importantly, the vari-angle lense to take my celeb self-portraits with) and still make the camera pink. Why is finding that combination like searching for a unicorn?
My other new toy (purchased with some birthday money) is the complete Seinfeld series. Can I just say WOW? It has over 100 hours of extras AND a coffee table book! :) I'm so excited to watch it. I love watching series in order because even if you've seen every episode, there seems to be a ton of stuff I missed not watching them back-to-back.

The bad news today is my poor little Echo had to be taken into the shop to diagnose the stupid "Check Engine Light." Blurgh. It's going to cost me $50 just for them to tell me what's wrong with it. Nice. I didn't feel like eating this week anyway. I told them that they can't take advantage of me just because I'm a girl. We'll see how that works out. Fingers crossed that it's not some horrible, hideous, expensive problem. I'm taking a road trip this weekend, so I kind of need a working car.

The Bachelorette

First things first - in general, I am NOT a reality TV show watcher. You're never going to catch me checking out the latest barbs from Simon, seeing which stars are dancing the tango, or caring about stupid people stranded on an island. I don't care if someone thinks they can dance, gets swapped by their husband, or races all over the world on a scavenger hunt. Not for me. Give me ER, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, or some other formulaic comedy and/or drama any day of the week. Those I enjoy. Those make me happy. Those I look forward to and watch way more than I should. Oh, OK, you caught me. I do enjoy Last Comic Standing...but just the stand-up acts, not the stupid house drama. That being said, line up 25 random bachelors and bachelorettes all vying for a rose and I'm all over it. Even though they never work out in the end (and really, like less than five couples have actually ever worked out), I still can't get enough. I think there may be one or two seasons I didn't watch (because I didn't like the guy who was the Bachelor), but otherwise I've seen them all. This weekend gave me the perfect time to catch up on the new season of The Bachelorette....can I just say WOW?! Those guys are the biggest tools! I love DeAnna (I don't care what you think, Shmeg and Buffy), but they really need to stop playing her rejection and scenes with Brad over and over. Brad must be ticked how much he's on the show. Granted, he was a jerk who didn't deserve her, but still.
So far, here are the ones I can't stand:

I'm so glad Ryan got booted. How are these other two still around (especially Twilley - he gives me the heebie jeebies)? It boggles the mind.
These are my current faves (although I hope she doesn't boot Jason for having a kid - he's super dreamy).
What on earth was up with these guys? Poor little Luke (the oyster farmer) actually CRIED at the Rose Ceremony. Come on, honey, pull it together. You knew her for like two seconds. And Greg referring to himself in the third person and then ripping off his shirt Hulk-style? Too much! Obviously, I'm already way too invested in this stupid show.

The Cure part 2

So, I was just looking at my cool pics from The Cure concert and decided that I just had to share tons more. This first one was taken with my iPhone (yes, I have an iPhone...I know, I'm pretty cool).

I loved the pink light shining out of Robert's head

Wow, this guy is dedicated!!!

Hi-Bounce Pinky

My friend just brought me this ball that she found at a yard sale this weekend. I think it's glorious. Perhaps that should be my new name: Hi-Bounce Pinky? :) I LOVE it!

Pinky at Pink's

In addition to the movies and celebs at Sundance, my favorite thing about the experience is the amazing group of friends I've made and the little circle we've been able to form. We have so much fun every year. The boys usually fly in a day before the fest, leave a day after, and we all stay crammed into Pink Palace just hanging out. It's a blast. Here's a picture of our crew this year:
So, when I had the chance to meet up with a few of them after the wedding a few weeks ago, I jumped at the chance. We ended up meeting at a place in Hollywood called Pink's Hot Dog Stand. I'd never been there before, but it seemed like a natural meeting place (considering we share a name).

Now, I'm still not sure that the hot dogs are worth standing in line for hours (since it just tasted like a hot dog to me), but perhaps I should've tried something more exotic than a plain hot dog with mayo. :) Either way, our time spent standing in line gave us all time to catch up and of course there were a plethora of photo opportunities with the Pink signs. :) It's always fun to see everyone in "regular" clothes and not all bundled up for the freezing festival. Oh, who am I kidding? It's just fun to see them whenever I can! :)

Nick & Pinky 4ever???

OK, that's it. I can no longer hold this secret in. Nick Cannon (aka Mr. Mariah Carey) was my lover. I'm afraid on the rebound from me he had to go out and marry Mariah...can you imagine? So, for weeks I've been suffering as they frolicked about on the beach, at the park, and in their wedding photos, all the while knowing that he once was mine. :) Just kidding. He was actually SO nice and sweet at Sundance, but alas, no love connection. For some reason, I just thought the idea was super funny. :) Hope you're having a great Memorial Day!

Postsecret

My favorite thing about Sunday is that new secrets are posted on the Postsecret website (http://postsecret.blogspot.com/). This site is so cool. The founder started it as a way for people to mail in their deepest, darkest secrets anonymously on postcards. Sometimes they're funny, sometimes they're sad, and sometimes they just make you think. This little labor of love he started has just blown up and now there are published books full of these postcards. Here are a few of my fave postcards he published today:

Aching for The Cure

My love affair with The Cure began one summer when my cousin came to visit for a few weeks. As soon as we picked her up from the airport, she began playing the tape Staring at the Sea: The Singles for the entire three hour ride home. I hated it. Couldn't stand it. Thought it was the worst music on earth and would rather enjoy my bee-bop music with its predictable tempos and peppy fun. She said by the time she left, I'd fall in love with them, and then proceeded to play that freaking tape non-stop for the entire visit. Surprisingly, she was right. By the time she left, I was hooked on The Cure and have never looked back. Twenty years later and they're still my favorite band (followed by Depeche Mode and Duran Duran). Anytime I'm in a horrible mood, Robert Smith's voice has an amazing quality that calms me down. Their music affects me unlike anyone else and seeing them live again was something I've been looking forward to for a long time (even though I've never looked the part and could never pull off a "goth girl" ensemble).

They were actually scheduled to play last October and I'd bought the tickets for me and Triangle (although, that was even planning too far ahead, considering we stopped seeing each other in September). Luckily, my friend Lagoon Jeff agreed to go with me last night (which was great, since he loves them just as much as I do). I'm so glad I asked him to come, because he's much more skilled in the concert world and was able to inspire me to be far more brave than I ever would've been on my own. Now, granted, I can be somewhat bold when it comes to seeing celebs at Sundance, but sneaking into seats at a concert that weren't mine? No way. Never happen. Even if I'm higher than the nosebleed section, I'll stay where my ticket says I should be because I don't want to get into trouble. I'm quite the concert prude in this way.

This was my third time seeing The Cure live. The first time, The Wish Tour in 1992, was at the Rose Bowl in LA. The second time, The Curiosa Festival, was a few years ago at the Usana Amphitheater. Both times I was far away from the band (except for walking into the festival and seeing Robert Smith standing RIGHT THERE and thinking it was someone dressed up like him....but don't even get me started on that...). Last night our seats were no exception. Behold the view from our original seats:
Crappy, right? Yeah, so Lagoon Jeff took charge and we made our way to the front. Like, way front. I thought we were just going on the floor, but somehow we ended up in the fourth row. Look how close we were to The Man himself, Robert Smith:
Does it blow your mind? It totally blew mine! LOOK AT HIM! We were so close we could see his smudged make-up. See the necklace he wore. See his outfit and how he moved. See the sweet, shy little smile he'd get that showed how much he was truly doing what he loved. I could even see his hair being held in a little ponytail in the back of his head (perhaps he was wearing one of my scrunchies???). He was incredible. They played for THREE HOURS with three encores and I think would've played all night if his voice hadn't gone out at the end (although, it must be said that if I'm 100, he must be 150...and boy, can he still rock!). It was so much fun. I loved the energy of the audience and how we all became as one...especially while singing "Why Can't I Be You" together in unison. Even the security guard busting us (several times, but still we made our way back up front) couldn't get me down. Oh, did I mention they were selling PINK Cure shirts? My dream come true! :)

The Ex Factor

I woke up this morning to a call from my neverending ex-boyfriend (or, as my BFF calls him, "Dead Man" since I go through phases where I say he's dead to me). He was calling because he'd just had a big fight with his girlfriend and wanted my opinion about what was going on. Now, considering we've been friends for over half my life, I'm usually happy to help out with whatever he needs. But talking about a girlfriend, someone he can finally commit to (something he never seemed able to do with me), and listening to their "great" dinners, dates, and how he wants to introduce her to his friends is a bit awkward for me to listen to. I don't want to say I'm unwilling to help or listen, because I do want to be a good friend, and to a point I was flattered that I was the first person he called. But it's definitely challenging for me to listen to his lovelife. Considering I finally realized he and I will NEVER work out (which was a huge revelation for me, even though the rest of the world already knew that), I thought this type of thing would be easier. I seem to be wrong there.

When Pinky Met Meg

My friend at work asked me a good question the other day. With all the recent discussions of my top male celebrities, she asked who my top female celeb would be. Well, I'm glad you asked. Hands down, my favorite actress is Meg Ryan. It's safe to say that I can recite "When Harry Met Sally" by heart and just love practically everything she's ever done. Imagine my excitement to see that she was in one of the premieres at Sundance this year. I didn't expect in a million years that she'd actually come....but she did! :) The whole night was so perfect, it was practically kismet. First of all, I wasn't supposed to be at the screening. I know, I know...what was I thinking?? But my BFF was flying in for some of the festival and his flight came in at the same time. (I told him that he must be pretty cool to qualify for my missing Meg!). Luckily, his flight got delayed, so I was able to go. Second, I happened to see Morgan Spurlock (of "Supersize Me" and "30 Days" fame) come into the "entourage/VIP" section, which was near my seat. Well, several years ago, I'd met Morgan while I was working at the festival. He thought my whole "Pinky" thing was so funny, he took a picture for his website (yes, I'm so incredibly famous that people take random pictures of me for their websites...would you like my autograph??). At that time, he wasn't really big yet (plus, I was working), so I didn't take a picture with him (which I've regretted ever since). So, when I saw him come into the entourage section, I finally saw my chance. I yelled out, "Hey Morgan, it's Pinky!" and he came right over (!). I told him we needed a picture together, which we took, and then as we were talking, Meg Ryan came in and stood RIGHT NEXT TO ME (I was so excited I almost burst!). Let me say this - I know she's had some work done and whatever, that's her thing. But that lady is itty bitty teensy weensy. Like so little she might fly away. I kind of just froze being in the same proximity as her (she was talking to some people near me) and then when I saw my chance I reached down and pretty much HELD her hand (hello, bold move!), and asked if we could take a picture. I'm pretty sure I also rambled something about her being my favorite (hello, crazy). She said yes, but then as I went to take it, she HATED seeing her face on my screen (she actually said, "Oh, no, I don't want to see that!") and turned her head right as the flash went off. I was crushed! Come on, look at my psycho face. I look insane.
On a side note, a girl I worked with at the festival was watching from the balcony with some friends and said she was trying to show them how I always got the "big celeb" pictures. She said when Meg turned her head, they all went "OOOOOHHHH!" like at a football game or something. She was surprised I didn't hear them. Too funny. Luckily, I was able to hand my camera to someone standing near us and we took another pic (but not before Meg got distracted by the images showing on the movie screen). Oh well, good enough for me. At least I got my picture. Granted, it could have been a lot better, but it's Meg Ryan for Pete's sake (who's Pete anyway?).
It's hard to see, but I'm wearing a Hello Kitty shirt. Cool, I know. Can you see Morgan in the background? Oh, and after the movie, Meg waved to me from the stage (we took the pic before the movie, btw). How cute is that? :)

Hair's the thing

I must have the thickest hair in the world. I'm trying to grow it out, which is great, except for the fact that by about noon every day it feels so heavy on my head I want to cut it off. By lunchtime my hair's in either a ponytail or a bun (yes, it's quite stunning rocking the granny look). When I get home, the first thing I do is put it up. Off my face. Off my neck. Out of sight for the rest of the night. What I can't seem to understand is where all my scrunchies go??? I swear they must sprout legs and run away. Perhaps they're in cahoots with the missing socks when I do laundry...because no matter how many packets and packets of the stupid scrunchies I buy, one by one they vanish into thin air. Of course, if I happen to come home with some stupid rubber band from work that I only used out of pure necessity, that piece of crap is readily accessible to put my hair up with whenever I need it (sadly, it also pulls out a handful of hair with it when it comes out).

On a separate note, I'm going to see The Cure tonight. I'm so excited! I need to go home and fix my hair, as it's having a bad hair day.
